KHEN was originally focussed on HiV/Aids health education & home-base care and registered as an NGO with the Ministry of Interior as Kien-Kies Health Education Network, on 1 October 2002. Cambodia was very successful in meeting the challenge of HIV/Aids, so KHEN refocused on Child Rights (Education and Protection) for the most vulnerable children and youth – in rural and difficult to access areas of Battambang province. KHEN reorganised in 2014 with the formal transfer of 2 inclusive education projects from Kumar Ney Kdey Sangheum (KNKS) (Another NGO). This transfer was to improve project management and project outcomes for both Battambang and Pursat Provinces. KNKS projects and staff stayed in Pursat and the Battambang based staff transferred to KHEN.  With this reorganisation, KHEN changed the meaning of its name and reregistered with the Ministry of the Interior of Cambodia. KHEN is now officially recognised as Khmer NGO for Education with the registration number of 662 (សជណ ៦៦២) dated 13th April 2015
